Welcome to the Crocodiles Page
There are two classes in Year 2 at Ashbrook School, one is called Crocodiles class and one is called the Lions class. Our classes are situated next to each other with a shared area. In Crocodiles class the teachers are Mrs Megeary and Mrs Taylor. Lions class teacher is Miss Evans. We have two teaching assistants in Year 2, Mrs Calfe and Mrs Dharmadikary. Year 2 is an exciting year; the children work very hard and become more independent as they prepare themselves for their next step – on to junior school!
We explore many topics throughout the year and each topic focusses on the key curriculum areas, ensuring the children are accessing all the areas of the new National Curriculum across the year. Each half term we work on a new topic.
Autumn 1 - Sun, Sea Surf
Autumn 2 - Fire, Fire
Spring 1 - Blast Off
Spring 2 - Explosive Earth
Summer 1 - Truly Scrumptious
Summer 2- Creepy Crawlies
Alongside these exciting topics we perform a Christmas play and an end of year production. We have days where we celebrate special occasions, such as Christingle, Diwali and Ashbrook School’s 30th birthday. We also plan exciting learning days, such as Science Days, Maths Day and World Book Day.
As a year group, we plan a trip to Campbell Park as part of our Geography curriculum, comparing two locations. We observe the different sculptures in the park and much of our art work links with this study. We also try to incorporate a trip to MK Gallery on this day, if the display links to the children’s learning.
In the summer term we visit the Roald Dahl Gallery in Aylesbury, where the children experience lots of interactive games and can explore the imagination of Roald Dahl. This links to our reading of his books and finding out about the author. It also supports our Creepy Crawlies topic, as the children discover mini-beasts in the Giant Peach.
