DESCRIPTION:We are very excited to be welcoming Commonwealth Games athlete\, Nerys Pearce to Ashbrook School on Friday 3 May 2024. \nNerys Pearce has competed in powerlifting\, swimming\, athletics\, rowing\, and wheelchair basketball at the Invictus Games winning 10 medals and came fourth in the Commonwealth Games. \nShe will be leading a sponsored fitness circuit with all the children\, followed by a talk and question and answer session. The event aims to inspire the children to be more physically active and just as importantly\, encourage them to discover and pursue their passion in life or as Nery’s motto states ‘be better tomorrow than you are today’. \nThis is also an opportunity to connect the children to an extraordinary athlete role model and raise money to improve physical activity for the school\, whilst also supporting GB athletes including Paralympic athletes. \nSponsorship forms will be coming home in book bags today\, to help your child to raise money for the event. You can also sponsor your child by going to www.sportsforschools.org and clicking on “Set up a fundraiser page”. \nWhen searching for our school\, begin to type the school’s name or postcode and our school will come up. \nPlease ensure that sponsorship forms and money are returned to the school office one week after the event has taken place on Friday 10 May. \nPlease also make sure that your child comes to school on Friday 3 May dressed in their PE Kit.

West End in Schools provide the fantastic opportunity of delivering storytelling and drama workshops that are run by trained actors. \n“West End in Schools offers pantomimes\, dance and drama workshops\, musical theatre shows\, and Shakespeare workshops to primary schools all over the UK\, as well as Shakespeare workshops for secondary schools. \nWe’re the only school theatre company with trained actors drawn from the world of London’s West End theatre. \nOur team includes performers who have sung in musicals such as Wicked and Matilda\, danced in Chicago and Shrek\, and acted on the stages of the National Theatre and the Donmar Warehouse. Over the last few years they have worked with and performed to well over a million children.” \nTo bring their learning to life\, each class will be taking part in an interactive 40-minute session that will focus on the story telling. The children will use drama exercises and activities to imagine and explore the characters\, context and topics from new perspectives. During the sessions\, the children will look at the story as a whole before delving into the story’s setting and imagining how the characters move\, feel and think. \nIn order for us to take part in this exciting and enriching day\, we are asking for a voluntary contribution of £3.00 per child.  Please make your payment via your ParentMail account.
