Welcome to Lions Class Page
This half term we have been learning about castles and fairy tales. In English, we began by exploring traditional fairy tales. The children really enjoyed acting out the main parts of the story and then writing their own versions. We also linked this with our learning in PE to perform a ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ dance.
In Maths, we have been focusing on place value and numbers to 100. We have explored ordering and comparing numbers, including greater than and less than. Most recently, we have moved onto addition and subtraction. We have been learning different strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems, such as regrouping and the column method. Can you practise this at home?
As part of our learning in Science, we have been exploring the uses of everyday materials and their properties. We had lots of fun experimenting with these materials to make a waterproof hat for Barnaby bear. Luckily, he didn’t get too wet!
As well as fairy tale castles, we have also looked at real castles in the UK. We have used atlases and maps to locate castles and have learnt about a variety of castles and how these changed over time. We also learnt about what life was like inside a castle, by exploring the different job roles that people would have had. Which job would you have preferred?
In Art, we have looked at famous artists and created our own piece of artwork in their style. We have also used a variety of media to create collages, paintings and sketches of castles.
We are looking forward to next half term when we will be learning about the ‘Great Fire of London’.
