Welcome to Reception
There are two classes in Reception at Ashbrook School, one is called the Elephants class and one is called the Leopards class. Elephants class are supported by Mrs Tilston and Mrs Wood and the Leopards Class teacher is Mrs Watkins, supported by Mrs Brahmbhattt (Mrs B) and Mrs Tilston.
Reception is an important new adventure for the children, as they start school and become more independent and take part in some structured learning along with lots of child initiated activities.
Our classes feed into our wonderful shared area, where there is a large role play home corner, a transient art area, a creative area with playdough, easels and junk modelling, a small world area, a maths area, a writing table with a post box and a large reading area with a comfortable armchair. We are also lucky enough to have two outside play areas, which we use whatever the weather. One outside area has a mud kitchen and a large wooden climbing area with a climbing wall, monkey bars and a fireman pole and the other outside area has large construction blocks, water, sand, writing shed a stage and a den.
We love to show off our amazing work through our displays which we are happy to talk about and share.
We have a topic every half term, which we love to embed in everything that we do. They are usually story based, with our activities based around our theme;
Autumn 1 – All about me!
Autumn 2 – Traditional tales and celebrations
Spring 1 – Winter
Spring 2 – Dinosaurs
Summer 1 – Come Outside
Summer 2 - It's a small World
We love to celebrate at Ashbrook, especially days like Eid, Diwali, Birthdays, Chinese New Year and many more! We also plan exciting learning days, such as Science Days, Maths Day and World Book Day.
Every week we visit our amazing Forest area within the school grounds, where we learn to take risks and work in a team, supporting one another to make mobiles, bird feeders and animal shelters as well as many more exciting activities.
Please look out for updates on our curriculum for opportunities to come in and support us while we are learning about family traditions (especially food!) and different occupations. Let your child's teacher know if you can support with any upcoming activities.
Please see our half termly newsletter below.
