Home Learning Guidance for Parents

We are aware that this is an unusual situation and although it is not possible to provide you with everything that the children would have been exposed to or learned whilst at school,  we have put together some guidance and signposted you to some places online where you can continue to support your child’s development whilst at home with a range of games, interactive activities and challenges to complete.

Each day should have a mixture of the following:

Quiet time: Reading/jigsaws/spelling

Learning time: Maths, Writing, Science, Geography, History.

Creative time: Arts and crafts, Duplo, Lego, K’nex, junk modelling, baking, small world imaginary play etc.

Jobs time: Helping with household chores, e.g. wiping sides, tables, chairs, light switches, laundry sorting and folding

Outside time: Throwing/catching/kicking. Make up games, rules and scoring e.g. aiming bean bags into a bucket/hoop.

Technology time: ipads/tablets/TV/gaming - all in moderation

We have provided a separate grid of learning activities that can be completed each week at home. In addition to this, we have also provided a weekly project that can be completed as a family.

RECEPTION

The pack contains a range of fun, engaging and challenging activities that encourage children to practise the skills they have been learning in school. These include literacy activities to encourage children to practise reading, phonics skills and writing along with maths activities to practise counting, comparing numbers, addition skills and ordering numbers. There are also some fun craft activities included - why not make a balloon rocket or a trap for Evil Pea? There is also a simple play dough recipe included – talk about how the ingredients change as you mix them then use the play dough to make Supertato or Evil Pea. You can also explore number further using the play dough

YEAR 1 AND YEAR 2

With a range of fun, engaging and challenging activities, children will practise fundamental skills and reinforce concepts that have already been taught to them.  The content in these packs is suitable for any adult to deliver to a child of the appropriate ability. Many activities will require no input at all from an adult – they simply cover content that your child will already have some understanding of from previous lessons. No adult delivering this content to their child is required to have any teaching expertise or subject knowledge.
