PATH Staff Collaborate to Strengthen Teaching and Learning

At Ashbrook, we are committed to the growth and development of our staff because we know that great teaching leads to great outcomes for children. We are fortunate to have a dedicated team who continually strive to improve their practice and provide the very best learning experiences for every child.

As part of this commitment, staff engage in professional development every week. This week, our teachers joined colleagues from Two Mile Ash and Holmwood schools for the first of this year’s PATH teaching and learning sessions.

What does this mean for you and your child?

“At Ashbrook, we never stop in our pursuit of excellence. We are proud to be working alongside other IFtL schools on the Great Teaching Framework, a collaborative project that has been developing across the trust since last academic year. The framework focuses on identifying, understanding and embedding the teaching practices that have the greatest impact on children’s learning”.

During this week’s session, Mr Ainscow and Mrs Almond from Ashbrook joined Mrs Silva from Two Mile Ash and Mrs Ellerton from Holmwood in leading professional discussions around the theme of “Securing, Maintaining and Regaining Attention.”

The session explored how teachers can effectively capture children’s attention at key moments, maintain engagement throughout learning and support pupils to quickly refocus when distractions occur. By examining research, sharing experiences and discussing effective classroom strategies, staff were able to deepen their understanding of what helps children learn best.

Why is this important?

“To maintain high standards and achieve the best possible outcomes for all children, we must continually reflect on our practice, work collaboratively and consider what works well and why. Bringing staff together from across our schools allows us to share expertise, challenge our thinking and strengthen teaching even further”.

The real beneficiaries of this work are, of course, our children. Through ongoing professional development and collaboration, we can continue to provide high-quality teaching that supports every child to thrive, achieve and develop a lifelong love of learning.
