Eco Team

Welcome to our Eco Team page!

Ashbrook school is dedicated to fostering a love for the environment and teaching our young learners the importance of carbon literacy and reduction. We recognise that our change is habits can support making sustainable decisions.

Through hands-on activities and engaging projects, our Eco Rangers learn valuable lessons about conservation, renewable resources, and environmental leadership. They take part in exciting campaigns such as Cut Your Carbon months (November 2025), waste reduction, and energy-saving initiatives. By participating as Eco Rangers, our children develop a sense of responsibility and pride in taking care of our Earth, setting the foundation for a greener future.

Mr Ainscow is the sustainability lead for Ashbrook School. In 2025, Mr Ainscow was awarded Climate Wise Expert Schools Leader through CAPE and Leeds Trinity University.

Our actions and impact this year [2025-2026]

April 2026: The Eco Rangers from Ashbrook, Holmwood and Two Mile Ash schools met together in the park in Two Mile Ash to carry out a litter pick. We used grabbers, gloves and bags to clean up the local area. What a great way to work in our partnership of schools.

February 2026: The Eco Rangers have been supporting with 'The Big Switch Off' at the end of the half term. It is really important that we all think about electricity use and unplug all devices ahead of the holiday. This saves lots of electricity, saves money and is good for reducing our carbon footprint.

November 2025: The Eco Rangers met to think of the school's next steps and what we all need to work on together. Here are their priorities:

  • Not wasting paper. recycle more. We thought about the different bins that we have in school. Does everyone know what should go into the bins?
  • Reduce our food waste. The Eco Rangers will be weighing the food waste each day to see if we can reduce how much food is thrown away.
  • Grow more plants and flowers to help bees and butterflies.
  • Find out more about the nature, creatures and birds that live in the trees and bushes around Ashbrook. [We will be mapping our school].
  • Use electricity carefully - turn off lights when we are not in the classroom and reduce carbon.

October 2025: Preparations were underway for the launch of 'Cut Your Carbon' for the month of November. [The Eco Rangers will be supporting the calculating of this at the end of November].

September 2025: We selected new Eco Rangers who are committed to making a big difference this year. The three schools in PATH (Ashbrook, Two Mile Ash and Holmwood) will also be collaborating on some of the eco initiatives and bring the full team of Eco Rangers together.
